Job Shadowing
Job Shadowing offers students a powerful way to explore potential career paths by stepping directly into a real workplace. Instead of simply reading about a profession, students observe and participate in day‑to‑day tasks alongside experienced employees. This hands‑on exposure helps them understand the skills, responsibilities, and work environments associated with different careers.
Through job shadowing, students gain:
- Practical insight into how professionals apply their knowledge and skills
- A clearer sense of career interests and whether a field aligns with their strengths and goals
- Opportunities to ask questions, build confidence, and make informed decisions about future education or training
- Early professional connections that can support future internships or employment
Job shadowing bridges the gap between classroom learning and the real world, empowering students to envision their future with greater clarity and purpose.

Health Care Careers
In collaboration with many strategic partners, the Nebraska Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program produces the ‘Careers in Healthcare Challenge of a Lifetime’ book. The health career book provides information on a plethora of health careers. It includes guidance on aptitudes for success in a particular career, education and licensure requirements, as well as what educational programs are available in the state. The document is frequently used by the five AHEC centers, high schools, undergraduate institutions and others to promote health careers.
